Reading With Kindle

By

What Is A Kindle?

Amazon came out with a book reader a few years ago. The first one got good reviews but they improved it and the second one is supposed to be a lot better. It is a great gift idea for someone who really enjoys reading.

I like to read but I hate lugging around books. When I put them in my purse they get all messed up and the paged get crunched usually. I like convenience in reading and sometimes it is hard to get comfortable and hold a book. Paperbacks have the problem of the pages that never want to lay flat and the hard bound books are great but not the best to travel around with.

Maybe that is just me being too much a product of a "gadget" generation. I do own an ipod, and I have tried text documents on it, too. I like it best for music though. The updated Kindle is great for readers on the move.

There is a feature that allows the Kindle to actually read the book aloud if the book is set up to let Kindle use that feature. That is pretty cool for those days when you want to have the book read to you. It would be a good feature for sharing the book by having it read aloud.

The best place to find more detailed information about the Kindle is from Amazon since that is the main distributor for it. Who knows book sales better than Amazon though?

Two Kindles To Choose From

There are two Kindles to choose from so be sure you have an idea which one you order and which one you want. The larger one is quite a bit more expensive than the 6 inch diagonal E Ink ®. However it seems the smaller one is the one with Global Wireless Coverage and the other one is the one for U.S. Coverage only. Other than that most of the features are the same.

The larger size is the 9.7inch diagonal E Ink®. If you really like to store books this is the one for you since it stores 3,500 books. The smaller size will store 1,500 books only. Imagine having that many books? I usually get mine from the school library where I work, or check out the used book stores. About once a year or so I make an Amazon purchase. The have never let me down on customer satisfaction though and that is why I endorse them so highly.

What does Wireless Coverage have to do with it? Well the Kindle will log onto the internet around the world providing what Kindle you own. That way if you are traveling anywhere in the world you can have a book or newspaper in any language delivered to your Kindle in about a minute or less. That is fast!

Right now there are over 360,000 books in the Kindle Store. Kindle is the 44th out of 100 best seller in tech gadgets right now at Amazon. It seems that more and more people are finding that they are really affordable to have after the initial investment. Why is that? New Releases New York Times Best Sellers as well as other new releases can be purchased for $9.99. Several books are available for a lot less than that.

That is what attracted me to the Kindle. I just do not have room to store books, and like most book readers, when I buy a book, I tend to hold onto it.  Then they get dusty and eventually end up in a box somewhere, until I loan it to someone or give it away.  The Kindle will store so many books, that I will save on space, and dusting. The smaller size will last a long time for me.

Kindle For PC and iPhone

If you are not ready to purchase a Kindle but want to try it out on your iPhone or your own Personal Computer then there is a free download to get you started.  You will be able to download the books having access to the whole Kindle library and use your PC or iPhone to test out the Kindle features.  Now that is a great opportunity to test drive a Kindle from the comfort of your own home.

I like the idea because it is a great way to get books at a great price delivered immediately without having to drive to my local bookstore.  Just use my links on the Kindle banners that are on this site to visit the Amazon Kindle page if you are interested in getting started this way.

Kindle Review Videos

I am enclosing some Kindle Review videos because they explain things in such an easy to use method.  I enjoy watching videos about products, and am happy to be able to include them on HubPages, too.

Once you see the videos you will have a better idea of the features with Kindle and the sizes and what you are able to do as an owner of one.

More Kindle Features

Here are some of the features that people like about the Kindle:

  • Slim Size is just over 1/3 inch thin
  • Weight is 10.2 ounces
  • Non Glare: reads like writing on paper even in bright sunlight
  • Long Battery Life: The battery lasts days, not hours
  • Free Book Samples lets you read a few pages before you buy
  • Monthly subscriptions to newspapers
  • 1 year limited warranty and service included with optional extended warranty
  • Annotation Feature lets you write in your Kindle books

Also several reviewers love the fact that Kindle automatically stores your place when you are reading.  The search function is getting high raves, too.  People are make the money back for the cost of the Kindle by the money saved on getting books.  No longer are they having to wait for books to arrive at the store or library.  They can have them in less than a minute.

Now what I wonder...Are Kindle owners going to loan out Kindles like they would loan a friend a favorite book?
