Do they look more like Guinea Pigs or Hampsters? You have to admit they are the size and shape that kids of all ages will love. They weigh in at about 1 pound. They are 3x4x6 inches. Right now they are ranked in the top 10 of toys at Amazon and top 3 of electronic pets.

What do they do? They want love and to be held and petted. They have an explore mode where they will scoot across floors. Each one has its own sound, so people are buying more than one, of course. The White is the most expensive and the gray is the least expensive at this time.

The reviews are in and say that they use Triple A batteries, and go through them, so you might want to consider recharable batteries and keeping the charger handy with one always ready, or more than that if you are buying more than one hamster.

The recommended age is 3, however you must keep the child supervised since the batteries do come out of the Zhu Zhu so you can change them. Young adults enjoy these pets, too.

It depends on the child how much they will enjoy having the pet. Some children grow awfully fond of them. They are younger children. They want the accessories, such at the carrier, and bed, and the wheels. There is a good amount of accessories.

Some are saying the price will go down after Christmas. I see the quantity count on Amazon going down pretty fast though, so if you must have a certain color, I would get it while you can. I am hearing that they are getting more and more difficult to find in stores, but have not done any searching in a while.

I know when I was in elementary school I had a pet hamster and my cat would not leave it alone, so it was difficult to play with it. I think this is the best kind of pet for a child to have since it is low maintenance and won't run away. The cat might stilll try to steal it.
